CAN I REPLACE MY CONVERTIBLE REAR WINDOW?

The short answer is sometimes.

The long answer is.........

Convertible tops have several types of windows.

In two piece tops, the window unit is separate from the top and can be replaced without installing a new top.
This link will show you a window in a typical two piece top before the top goes on.
The video shows a vinyl window, but the procedure is the same for a glass window.

When replacing a window on a two piece top, the rear half of the top must be removed to access the window unit because the window was installed before the top.

You will do nearly as much work removing and replacing the top to install a window as you would replacing both the top and window.  For that reason, it is prudent to inspect the top before making a decision to replace the window only.
If the top is too badly worn, you will save time and money in the long run by replacing it at the same time as the window.

Instructions for replacing tops and windows can be found here.

On one piece tops, the window is an integral part of the top.
On those tops if the window is clear vinyl,  the  top must be removed completely from the vehicle.
The damaged window is cut from the top and used as a pattern to cut a new window from .40 gauge clear vinyl.
The new window is then sewed into the top and the top replaced on the vehicle.
The sewing operation is best left to a professional with a heavy duty commercial sewing machine.

Some one piece tops have a glass window that cannot be replaced without replacing the top.
A few tops have glass windows installed in them in such a way that they are replaceable.  These must be addresses on a case by case basis.

Vinyl windows deteriorate faster than the top and glass windows get broken or delaminate.  For these reasons, you may need to replace a window before you need to replace the top.
